1. Does my Bachelor (Master) degree fulfill the entry requirement for M.Sc. (Ph.D.) by research program?
A good Bachelor (Master) of Science degree is required. However, to successfully pursue a M.Sc. (Ph.D.) by research, you should have a strong background in your area of research. It is best to discuss this with your prospective supervisor.
2. Is the M.Sc./Ph.D. by research program full time or part time?
Currently the University does not distinguish between a part time or full time student. The period of study (candidature) is of importance: M.Sc. (minimum-2 semesters, maximum-10 semesters); Ph.D. (minimum-4 semesters, maximum-16 semesters)
3. How do I go about applying for the M.Sc./Ph.D. by research program?
Prospective
candidates are requested to contact the academic staff members directly for a
possible research topic. Write the research proposal and submit together with the forms to the
4. Can I apply for admission to the M.Sc./Ph.D. by research program by submitting a research proposal without prior discussion with academic staff members?
It is possible to do so but there
may not be anyone to supervise you in the area of your interest. It is best to discuss research topics with staff members beforehand. This
will save you time, especially for applicants from outside
5. Can I straightaway register for the Ph.D. program?
No. But you may register first as a M. Sc. candidate and convert to the Ph.D. research program (within one year of candidature) if you make very good progress in the M.Sc. research program.
6. What is the standard required of my thesis?
Your research findings should be worthy of publication in refereed international journals. As a guide, there should be at least one (two) article(s) published for a Master (Ph.D.) thesis.
7. Do I have to give an oral presentation (seminar) before I submit my thesis?
